SMARTER Oddy’s Quest II

Salam. Hi.

No. This will not be a formal report. Simply my thoughts. As you know, I volunteered again for the musical. Meeting the kids again, and new volunteers made me happy. I’m glad that I had the chance to work again with my previous costume gang, and the new ones. Somehow, this one seems more hectic, no?

I would like to congratulate SMARTER for such a successful event and for letting us volunteer and experience ourselves, how it’s like to be around the kids, to interact with them.. It’s been a great experience.

I didn’t take photos during the event. So here’s pictures from my friends, credit to Miley Mustapa, Liyana Yussof, Ira Ali.. and whoever else own the pictures.

Part of the costume crew (L-R: Miley Mustapa, Me, Yul, Safwan Asli, Liyana Yussof)

Part of the costume crew on the right stage, with Teacher Aziz and Jonathan

And again, the (incomplete) costume crew

with the Wonderfoos :)

I hope to work with SMARTER people again soon :)

Love146

Slavery. Child Slavery. Tell me what comes in your mind when you hear, see, read those words. Honestly, tell me.

I found this website and I continued reading about it. My eyes did not blink a second, reading everything.

Love146 is an international human rights organization, serving people regardless of religion, political preference, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation or gender. Love146 believes partnerships across religious, political, social and cultural boundaries are vital in working towards the abolition of child sex slavery and exploitation.

The motto of Love146 is “end child sex slavery and exploitation”.

How did they get the name, exactly?

#BeatCancer

Salam.

Earlier this morning I read tweets mentioning #beatcancer. So I grabbed the chance to check out the website and see if it is mentioned there. So apparently, there’s two things going on:

1. Breaking the Guinness World Record.

“Tweet, update your Facebook status, or write a blog post with the hashtag #beatcancer TODAY, October 15, starting at 9am PST and you’ll not only help set a new record, but you’ll be helping the fight against cancer.

Last year, a Guinness World Record was set by Everywhere, out of Atlanta, Georgia (raising more than $70,000) for the “Most Widespread Social Network Message” with #beatcancer. In 24 hours the one-word phrase set the record contributing to the 209,771 unique mentions on Twitter, Facebook and blog posts. But this year, they’re out to break their own record.”

2. Raising Fund.

“The hope is to spawn a worldwide online message and raise money to fight cancer. PayPal and SWAGG – a product from Firethorn, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm – will donate ($0.05)* per mention of #beatcancer on Twitter, Facebook, or blog post during the 24 hour Guinness World Record attempt. All money will be donated to the designated cancer serving non-profits, LIVESTRONG Foundation, Bright Pink and Stand Up To Cancer.”

Reach out now to your friends and social media networks and spread the word of the day: #beatcancer

(source, source)

So that’s like you’re making money every time you tweet, update your status or blog and the money you earned from those will be donated to the fund. Horay! Oh and you’re helping to break the record too! Double Horay! :D

Oh. Don’t forget also to register to Stand Up To Cancer. Who knows you can figure out any great ideas to help out (and make sure to bring me along :D ). You can even share you stories there!

Love you all :D

SMARTER

Assalamu’alaikum.

Last night I was checking out some blogs and passed by Uncle Pablo’s blog post about SMARTER BRUNEI. I am pretty sure you have heard about it.  It is a centre for Autistic Children and they need a lot of help with financial funding. According to his post, “they will run out of funds by November 2010″ and there is a huge possibility that the centre might close down due to unsufficient amount of money they have. According to Malai Abdullah, “if I have to close down, those 15 families will be the first ones to be expelled.” We seriously do not want anything like that to happen.

Later in Uncle Pablo’s post, he mentioned that “Bloggers and Foodies are currently working with SMARTER to organise an Open Day Charity Bazaar at the Sengkurong Centre- to raise public awareness of the dire need to keep the Centre remain open. The Open Day will provide relevant agencies, corporate organisations and public at large to see the kind of work the Centre has put on and at the same time, buy items on sale by Bloggers and Foodies, with proceeds going to the Centre. It will also provide opportunity for corporate organisations to make assessment in making possible funding to the Centre.

A charity T shirt designed by Kurapak will be soon made available for sale with proceeds to the Centre. SMARTER is also looking for donations of reusable items such as clothings and electrical items for their Charity shop at Wisma Jaya.”

Please, everyone. Anything you do might help to save this organization. Spread the love, spread the words. I will keep on updating about SMARTER to you.

Save SMARTER :)
